The Climate Rings!

This page explains a bit about some the worlds ecosystems. At the largest scale these are often termed biomes and case studies of a few key types are presented on this site. The planet earth orbits the sun in such a way that certain conditions remain constant for certain areas of the earths surface. These conditions tend to be roughly in rings around the earth however they may have slightly altered shapes in areas effected by strong air currents (such as the UK which is influenced by the Gulf Stream). The effect of the suns consistent input of solar radiation is a relatively stable climate and this in turn often effects the types of flora (plant life) and fauna (animal life) you would expect to find. The map below shows some of the generalised biomes of the world and you can click on each one to view a case study about it in a new window (if you can't click on the links please select from the list at the bottom of the page):

Tundra Tropical Savana Tropical Forest Temperate Forest Midlatitude Grassland Desert Chaparral Boreal Forest Alpine

Take a look at each of these biomes in more detail, click on the biome you wish to know about (in the picture above).
Please Note: Knowing about at least one biome provides a excellent case study for GCSE Geography.
