Alpine!
by Paul Wittle
Location
- This is one of the only biomes that does not
depend on longitude (it is not in a ring around the globe).
Alpine ecosystems are only found on mountain ranges (high
altitude).
- Some examples are: The alps, The himalayas, The
zagros mountains, The rocky mountains, around Kilimanjaro
and The andes.
Other information:
- This biome is at high altitudes were the air is
described as thin. Very little can survive at the higher
altitudes but some smaller grasses can survive were rock
has eroded to produce a small amount of soil.
- Birds and animals such as mountain goats and
hares may venture up a mountain but don't often live very
high up a mountain.
