Humus -

This is a layer of soil formed from decaying dead organic matter. For example leaves falling from trees in deciduous forests form a layer known as the leaf litter. This is decomposed by the decomposers (fungi, bacteria e.t.c.) and is covered over by more falling leaves. This forms a layer just below called humus which is high in nutrients.
